WHAT IS HAPPENING THESE DAYS IN THE WORLD OF THEATRE, DANCE AND PERFORMANCE ART IN ITALY?
In recent days, the results of the evaluations for the Fondo Nazionale per lo Spettacolo dal Vivo by the Italian Ministry of Culture for the 2025–2027 three-year period have been published. This fund provides vital support for companies, production centres, festivals and theatres throughout Italy.
Dozens of festivals and organisations that promote the languages of performing arts have not seen their work recognised, facing unjustified exclusion and penalisation compared to previous years. This is not the result of a genuine assessment of artistic value, but rather a political strategy aimed at undermining culture, freedom of expression, and artistic experimentation.
Among the excluded projects is ORLANDO, which has not been granted funding.
The picture that emerges is one of serious harm to the entire sector — a field already characterised by precarious working conditions — affecting artists, technicians, organisers, communication and production workers alike.
ORLANDO stands in solidarity with the many voices denouncing this attack and will take part in the National Assembly taking place tomorrow, Monday 7 July, both online and in various cities across Italy.
